Welcome to this week's episode of Content Creation Made Easy. I am your host, Jen Lady, and we are talking today about what happens when we make certain decisions with our content and the long term ripple effects of that. I'm going to give you two actionable items today, but I want to start with a little story about me getting to Florida that was really made clear what happens when we make a decision and the ripple effects of that. So I was desperate to get out of Syracuse. It has been seven degrees and icy and snowy and just horrible.
So I was like, I've got to get to Florida. So I booked myself a long weekend on the day of my flight. It was 430 A-M-I woke up, got to the airport, was on the plane by 520 for my 06:00 A.m. Flight. And there we sat on the plane until like 745.
When they finally deplaned us, there were a whole bunch of things wrong. But the biggest problem was there was no fuel like the fuel trucks. It turns out we found out later the fuel trucks were the problem. We didn't actually take off until 3 hours later. So this is 5 hours after I get to the airport.
We take off at like 1030 Ish. So I spent 5 hours in our dinky little Syracuse airport. Two of those hours were spent sitting on the plane. And I was just like, what gives Delta? What's the problem?
And they finally told us, oh, our delivery trucks. Our fuel delivery trucks had been sitting outside overnight in the seven degree weather. And we're so sorry. They kept saying, we're so sorry. We're so sorry.
Our trucks are frozen. We're waiting for them to thaw. And I was like, it's Syracuse in January. Are we waiting here till June? How are they actually going to thaw?
What's your plan? And I was not only, like, pissed off and angry at this point, I'm just really confused about how something like this happens because freezing weather in Syracuse is par for the course. This is not our first day having frozen weather. It turns out someone failed to follow protocol the night before, and they left the trucks out overnight, so they never got back in their hangar and the fuel trucks were frozen. So why don't you just consider the ripple effects of a choice that somebody made that night to not follow protocol right beyond the missed connections.
And then, of course, all of the subsequent rebookings, not only in addition to the lost reservations on the other side, all the people whose cars weren't there anymore, maybe they had missed a reservation at a restaurant or a hotel or whatever. Think about all the people, the meetings, the experiences that were affected on the other side because somebody couldn't show up because they were sitting in Syracuse in seven degrees. Think about all the time and effort that this Delta staff had to deal with with angry, resentful, upset, annoyed customers. Right. It affected them, too.
It wasn't their fault, but it affected them. And then there's hundreds of people sitting in the airport, and there's hundreds more coming in for their upcoming flights. That's double the amount of people that they usually serve in terms of food and seating and addressing problems on the line. Let's talk about the big one. Emotions.
Everybody is tending to their emotions, right. Depending on how much you can keep your cool, which it really takes me so much time and effort to keep my cool when I'm traveling on an airline. I mean, there are people who can range in this, right? Like, we've got fear, we've got anxiety and worry. We've got resentment, we've got irritation, we've got full blown anger.
Everybody's trying to manage their emotions. So this one event of not putting the cars and trucks back in the hangar was a choice that created outcomes that were super far reaching and not immediately evident. I'm sure that we could sit here and brainstorm lots and lots of other kinds of outcomes. It's all about the ripple effects. And this is something that we deal with in our content and marketing all the time.
Our words, our ideas, our thoughts, the things we want to share with our audience. Your content, your marketing. It has ripple effects. When you do it, when you do it well, when you don't do it at all, when you do it badly, it really does create ripple effects. So today I want to talk about the ripple effects in your own content marketing and some things you can do to make sure that you're helping yourself and setting yourself up for the ripple effects to actually serve you and your audience.
So the first one is that marketing starts with a mindset that creates positive ripple effects both for us and our audience. Now, most people are not creating content because they tell me the following things. I don't know what to say or how to say it. It takes too much time and doesn't feel good or natural, and I just can't seem to ever get it done. Like it always falls to the bottom of the list.
Those are the three big ones I hear that creates ripple effects. These are what those are. Our audience does not know us. They don't come to engage with us, and they don't hire us. And that affects our business.
It affects our bottom line. The ripple effect of that is we're not making the money. The reason we got into this business was, yes, to help people, of course. Yes, to have freedom and creativity and to make money. It's not a dirty word to make money.
So we feel like we're wasting time and energy. Why are we doing this? Why the effort? Are we doing this right? And then another ripple effect is we judge ourselves.
We're not successful, we're not achieving our goals. We're wasting our time. Why are we doing this? So when we don't have the right marketing mindset and we don't understand that our audience needs us to show up regularly and they need a clear, consistent message over and over to engage with us, they're not going to hire us. So keep in mind, content creation is a long game.
The first ripple effect, you have to ask yourself is how do I want to play the game and am I playing the game? So that's the first thing I want you to think about. Remember, when you choose not to engage or you choose to use a way of doing content that feels crappy to you, that's going to create a ripple effect. It's going to create a ripple effect of you not showing up and your audience not connecting with you. Second, let's talk about having the right protocols in place, the right systems in place to create a positive ripple effect, much like the protocol of the guy who didn't put the delivery truck back in the hangar and we all wound up with frozen fuel.
Do you have a protocol in your business where you can have consistent content created in a way that feels good for you? So we solve these strategies. We solve these problems by having strategies and plans in place that help you one learn what to say to your audience. Do you know what to say exactly to your exact audience in a way that feels good for you? Go back to that podcast because it can help you immensely. Two, experience accountability because implementation and get shit done time is vital. I'm telling you, I have included implementation hours across my week and I've started doing it with my clients and my members in my studio program and it is making a huge difference for them. So how can you create accountability? Maybe like, you can't do it yourself.
Most of us can't. We need accountability. So who can you show up with to get it done? Somehow getting it done with other people makes a big difference. And then the third thing, once you understand the system and make it work for you, content creation is no longer a mystery.
What does that mean? You've created approaches that work for you. That is vital. That's a huge protocol for you to put in place. So you want to help yourself by establishing the routines, the habits, the systems that are designed to work with your brain and your style and your business.
For example, on this one, a client told me the other day she was like, I just refused. I am not using social media to do launches anymore. I said, okay, great, so what are you doing? And she said, I am writing my blog and I am repurposing it into social media. But I'm not using social media as a way to launch.
I'm using social media as a way to meet people and get my face out there and get my brand made aware. That's perfect. Give yourself permission to do that. And it's really working for her. And she's filling her group program because she's using social media as a way to connect with people, and then she's using those relationships to fill her program.
So what I want you to understand is when you have a system that feels good for you that you don't feel resentful about, all this content creation is much easier. It's another ripple effect, right? Like you have to have the right system in place so that it can feel good for you so that you can show up. Now, ultimately, it does not make a difference whether you use social media or not, or whether you're not on Pinterest, or whether you hate Reels and TikTok or you don't want to do podcasts. Whatever it is that you don't want to do or you are or you aren't, you have to make it work for you.
Because showing up creates these long term relationships and ripple effects and people will start to know you. So taking a breath. Okay, I said a lot. Creating content and marketing to grow your business is a huge priority. And if you're ignoring it or are confused by it, it doesn't have to swallow you up.
If you first addressed your mindset about this and second, create systems that will help you, that's the first two things you want to do right now. So create ripples. Create plans that work for you. And if you struggle with this, I just want you to think about how support could help you. I actually had a client reach out to me and she said, I'm just going to read you her email to me.
She said, Jen, I wrote a blog post today in 2 hours. Never in my life have I written something that good, that fast. I followed your method instinctively of defining the important points and then elaborating on them. I still need some work on my call to action, but other than that, I think it's ready to go. I haven't written anything since the summer of last year.
Go figure. That kind of freedom now can ripple out into her business and her audience and help her audience with her expertise. Right?
