Listen to the Content Creation Made Easy Podcast

I’m SO SICK of marketing myself

content creation made easy

Though I love content creation & have LEARNED to lean into loving marketing, I 100% feel the pain of my clients & audience when they say,

I AM SO DAMN SICK OF MARKETING MYSELF.

We’re worn down by incessant marketing. So if you feel tired simply thinking about marketing & content creation:

I KNOW. I’m SORRY. It’s REAL.

I’m not gonna attempt to change your mind by reminding you how lucky we are to have direct lines to speak to our audiences & more ways to reach them than ever before.

You don’t need that.

When you’re in this place, YOU NEED A MENTAL SHIFT.

All month I’m talking about ways to make marketing more human - which seems impossible in this world of BOTS, BS DMs, ads tracking us, and email spam.

But after listening to this week’s Content Creation Made Easy podcast, you’ll be able to feel more NEUTRAL (no need to be EXCITED right now…)

A more neutral place in thinking about marketing + content creation.

Because right now, what’s probably going on in your head, besides the “I hate marketing” thought are additional thoughts like, I don’t know what I’m doing, I suck at this, I hate writing, I
M terrible on video, I hate my voice, nothing works.

And all that mental garbage definitely depletes you.

Welcome to Ep 146 of Content Creation Made Easy podcast - I’m your host Jen Liddy - and though I love content creation and have learned to love marketing, I definitely feel the pain of my clients & audience when they say,

I AM SO DAMN SICK OF MARKETING MYSELF.

I hear from my audience & clientele regularly:

  • I don’t want to ‘do’ marketing
  • I hate social media
  • I don’t want to make time for content

We’re worn down by incessant marketing; it affects how we’re able to show up for & grow our own business.

If you feel tired simply thinking about marketing & content creation:

I KNOW. I’m SORRY. It’s REAL.

I’m not gonna attempt to change your mind by reminding you how lucky we are to have direct lines to speak to our audiences & more ways to reach them than ever before.

You don’t need that.

When you’re in this place, YOU NEED A BREAK.

This month I’m talking about ways to make marketing more human - which seems impossible in this world of BOTS, BS DMs, ads tracking us, and email spam.

All I want you to think about after listening to today’s podcast is how can I get to a more neutral place in my thinking about marketing + content creation.

But rather than try to get you to see the sunny side - or to turn your thougths 180 degress (which feels like bullshit to your brain and never works), I’m going to offer 3 specific tips to help you get to a more NEUTRAL place about marketing.

Find yourself below & try on these tips to replenish your mental energy:

1. The UnSocial Me

You hate social media. You’re in a personal ethical battle about whether you’re perpetuating greed & big business, not to mention patriarchy, misogyny, and racism simply by having a social media ACCOUNT.

When you get on social media for business, you get sucked into black holes, never getting anything accomplished.

^That you? Here are some options (that require mental presence while doing them)

  • Is social media necessary for your business or your life? Could you opt out, realistically? Or at least reduce? What would happen (I’m not being snarky) if you opted out?
  • Set an intention to be SOCIAL & intentional - not passive - in your usage
    • Sharing thoughts & insights, commenting on others, and helping with your message is not NOISE.
    • It’s connecting. It’s social. It’s the point of social media.
  • Curate your feed. Hide, unfollow, & block people & ads who deplete or enrage you.
  • Create boundaries so you don’t get pulled into old habits
    • Set a timer. Honor the ‘ding’.
    • Put a sticky note on the screen: “Going in for updates from XYZ group”

2. The Resentful Me.

You have a job, a side hustle, a business, a family, a partner, friends, & a community and have ZERO TIME for this freakin’ endless dreadmill of content marketing nonsense.

You resent having to market yourself & wish people would just FIND your amazing product, service, book, podcast without having to shout everywhere, all the time!

Life is awfully LIFEY & marketing feels like death by a thousand cuts. Permission granted to:

  • STOP being EVERYWHERE. (People are highly resistant to this, like I’m bullshitting you when I tell you to do it, but it’s quite KEY)
    • Choose 1-2 platforms you can tolerate & learn them deeply.
    • Talk to your people there, consistently & simply.
  • SAY LESS.
    • Have 5 points to make about something? Instead of putting ‘em all in one email, break them into 5 emails with ONE point.

3.   You just hate it hate it hate it hate it. You just don’t wanna do it. Ever.

  • Marketing does not equal Social Media. Marketing is also networking, speaking, teaching, writing, talking, connecting, sharing, referral programs.
  • If you have a good or service in the marketplace, the only way people find out about it - THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP THEM - is by making sure they know.
  • Something that helped me was thinking about the products & services I’d never have been privy to benefitting from if they hadn’t told me about them. Shampoo. Bioidentical hormone. Copywriting programs.
  • Instead of “I hate it I hate it I hate it” as your mantra, will you consider:

I find ways to do it that feel good.
I create ways to do it that feel better to me.
I carve out my own marketing path.
I do things that feel right to me.

A LOT of marketing success starts with what’s going on in your brain. I can give you all the tactics, tips, tools, & strategies in the world, but if you’re mind get stuck in the moat, that’s your barrier to entry.

What are a few shifts you can make this week? You might want to play this audio again so you remember that it doesn’t have to be so hard and pluck out one little shift to help you make marketing more human.

And if you have a friend, client, colleague, or partner who could use this message, would you share it with them? The more people who find out about how to create content easily, the more good ripples go out into the world!

Remember, your specific audience NEEDS your products & services in your very YOU way - you know you’re here to help: go ahead & do that with your content!
