Selling is Service Shitty

Not to brag, but I was pretty much at an Olympian-level of mental gymnastics

because my mind did a LOT of impressive shit to AVOID selling.

I mean - I have an education background. What did I know about SALES?

Funny enough - when I was a teacher, I never realized it, but I was always selling something.

From pitching the district to buy me a class set of books I knew my kids would love -

to proposing a new way to approach co-instruction - 

to getting my 9th graders to buy into class discussions…(sometimes even getting them to SING!)

Even as a mom, the way I “sell” something I want my kid to do affects the outcome.

In real life, we’re all offering, helping, suggesting throughout our days…

“I’ll bring dinner over tonight so you can rest…”

“You pick up the kids & I’ll grab the groceries at Wegmans…”

But attach money to something we want to offer? Oh HELL NO.

Let’s go ahead & FREAK ON OUT! 

For simply offering something we want to HELP others with!!

Freaking out comes from old stories rattling around our brains that create sabotage in subconscious, bullshitty ways - 

  • Failing to follow up with a potential client…
  • Avoiding visibility (because the ultimate purpose of it is to sell something, amiright?)
  • Overloading people with too much “HOW” content, implying they can solve their problem on their own 

(Psst - if they COULD’VE - they already would’ve!)

 

  • Not stating your price - or (this actually happened) - ending a sales call without making an offer!

 

There’s a saying: Selling is SERVICE.

You might nod your head & say, “Suuuure, Jen. Yeah” - but you don’t really believe it.

You probably believe Selling is SHITTY.

And you’re not alone. Apparently 95% of our brain’s operations work on automatic thoughts we learned early & are now imprinted on us.

If you think selling is SHITTY, it’s coming from someplace…and WHEN you deal with that thought -

I had a very interesting conversation with Callie Croken - a business life coach who works with people’s deeply hidden stories.

What I expected to be a nice little convo about sales & sabotage & avoidance turned into ME seeing my own bullshit stories

Callie unearthed some old patterns I couldn’t see & coached me through my limitations…exploring some of my subconscious thoughts!

If we don’t heal the hurt places from our past that have hard wired our brains - then we’re running old programs & suffering the consequences.

Might you have parts of yourself that don’t align with what YOU want?

I’d put down money that YES, you do.

Because even the therapists, the healers, the people who TEACH THIS WORK…

THEY also must continue doing the work to heal their subconscious stories.

Moving through our garbage thoughts is not a to-do list. We don’t cross it off - and then move on.

It’s iterative. We come to move through it faster & faster - which is the goal…

With MORE EASE.
